On August 13th 2020, the Law regarding some measures for the protection of national interests in economic activity was adopted.
According to the law, the alienation of state participations in national companies and societies, in banks, as well as in any other company in which the state has the quality of shareholder, regardless of the participation share held, is prohibited for a period of two years. The above does not apply to post-privatization operations and privatization-specific operations.
For a period of two years, any operations relating to the alienation of state participants in national companies and corporations, as well as in companies in which the state has the status of shareholder, shall be suspended.
In the application of the above provisions, the provisions of the G.E.O. no. 88/1997 regarding the privatization of companies, approved by Law no. 44/1998, with subsequent amendments and completions and of the Law no. 137/2002 on some measures to accelerate privatization, shall be suspended accordingly.
